About Wahkeena Chapter, NSDAR
The Wahkeena Chapter, NSDAR, is an active chapter, participating in many community projects and activities within the Portland area. We promote community service and support those who serve our nation and education. Throughout the year members of our chapter participate in activities such as volunteer work, community events, and chapter programs. Some of our activities include:

- Wahkeena Chapter, NSDAR, established the "Wahkeena Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarship" in memory of member Mildred Ransom at Western Oregon University. Mildred loved history and was very proud of her Oregon pioneer heritage so the subject of history was chosen. We chose Western Oregon University to implement the Wahkeena Chapter Scholarship which will go to worthy history teacher or teacher with history focus as they earn their Masters degree.

Scarlet Oak Tree
A bronze marker in front of the tree. Planted in Laurelhurst Park west entrance (SE 33rd Ave & Pine) - Portland.
"This tree was presented by Wahkeena Chapter D.A.R. and dedicated as part of the the two hundredth anniversary of the birth of George Washington 1782-1982."

Columbia Gorge Pioneer Memorial
A drinking fountain of native stones with a bronze tablet. The DAR Insignia is 18” inches in diameter and cemented to the stone surface. Located along the Columbia River Highway at Wahkeena Falls.
"Dedicated to the Pioneers of the Columbia Gorge by Wahkeena Chapter D.A.R." – followed by DAR Insignia.

First Ferry Landing in Portland
Portland Information Center (also known as the Rose Building) near the Willamette River – west side near the seawall in Tom McCall park.
The marker is a metal plate on a metal base with words etched on it to commemorate the approximate spot of the first ferry landing honoring James Stephens who operated the first ferry at this site and founded the town of East Portland. First dedicated in 1955, then rededicated in 1976.
